Private, retreat, or other non-research settings may describe themselves as medical, supervised, or clinically informed. Those terms are not interchangeable with regulated research. A prospective participant can ask who conducts screening, whether credentials can be independently verified, what licenses apply in that jurisdiction, and who has responsibility for medical decisions.
Questions about how ibogaine is administered should include the setting’s monitoring plan, medication review, cardiac assessment process, emergency equipment, and written arrangements for escalation to a hospital. A clear answer should be specific enough to verify, not simply reassuring.
Cost is also not evidence of quality or safety. If expenses are part of the decision, keep treatment cost considerations separate from claims about outcomes, and ask what is included, what follow-up is offered, and what happens if a person is deemed ineligible after arrival.
